Lake #12 of The City of Lakes Project
Thanks to my friend Nimi, I finally visited the Gokul Nagar lake but it was not what I thought. The image I saw on Google Maps was five years old and the lake’s surrounding area has changed drastically.
It’s surounded by piles of garbage. There was a boat in the lake, I don’t know why, because the lake isn’t big enough to boat in it.
Nimi & I followed the maps and walked through small lanes to visit the lake but when we reached the destination there was no lake. We went a little ahead and asked a grandpa, if there was a lake nearby. He said yes and took us to the lake through a few tiny lanes small, passing by little houses.

When we were following him, all I could think of was Crime Patrol and we were getting kidnapped. I was about to share my live location with my friend but we reached the lake by then. We clicked a couple of photos and left the place. The way out, was just a few steps pass a small house, where the map had actully shown the lake location to be.
I knew it wasn’t a tourist or commercial spot to visit but didn’t expect it to be a dumping ground either. It’s not a place to venture in but I’m glad I discovered a tiny part of my city that I otherwise wouldn’t have known existed.
When I thought of visiting these lakes I often worry about what other people would say. That’s also the reason why I hestitate to ask for directions (this and Crime Patrol), but when my friend Nimi asked that kind grandpa, where the lake was, he just showed us the way. Didn’t ask why, didn’t judge us (nor did kidnap us). He just kindly took us to the lake, showed us the way out and left.

Abby Recommends : to use Google Maps. It is 95% of the time accurate as it can be. The number of times I have been to a new place or traveling by myself, I use Google Maps. It gives me a sense of security.
