Hariyali Lake

Lake #6 of The City of Lakes Project

Located at Chendani Koliwada (Fishermen’s Colony) in Thane East, this lake was earlier called as Chendani Talao and is now renamed as Hariyali Lake.

Considered to be one of the oldest lakes in Thane, Hariyali talav is frequented by locals for evening strolls. It spreads across an area of 0.79 hectors.

The lake is just outside of Thane railway station on the east side and hence easily accessible for locals. There is also Vithoba Mandir close by.

Sona and I came across a local resident uncle feeding the birds. It seemed like it was his usual daily routine. When he tossed the food (assuming bread pieces), it was a sight to behold, to see the birds fly and gather towards the spot to grab their meal.

Hariyali Lake isn’t exactly a tourist or recreational spot. There’s no leisure activities to do here. There is a small lane to stroll, and the lake is decently maintained. So local residents can take advantage of the venue to refresh and rejuvenate.

It felt wonderful to get out of my comfort zone and discover a place which isn’t so known. Thanks to Sona, who came along with me and took amazing pictures. This gave me the confidence to look for more hidden gems in my city.

Abbys Recommends :

Going on free walking tours. Most of large cities offer free walking tours that can last anything between 1 to 3 hours. It’s a great way to get your bearings and the guides are very informative. You may be expected to give a tip at the end but it’s not compulsory.
