Lake #3 of The City of Lakes Project
Masunda Lake, commonly known as Talao Pali, is one of Thane’s famous hangout spots. There are many recreational activites like boating, horse cart rides, and many yummy food stalls.

During the lockdown, the lake was renovated. They constructed a floating glass pathway, which is lit up with aesthetic LED lights. They also build ample of seating area.

I have been to Talav Pali so many times but this was the first time where I took a whole round of the lake and got to see the other side.

There is a boating centre. They have 3-4 different types of boats, including a small area with little boats for kids. The price ranges from ₹25 to ₹140. They also had 4 really big arrowana fish on display.

Opposite the boating house are many food shops, cafes and restaurants. Walking more steps ahead comes Gadkari Rangayatan, a performing arts centre where many plays, school annual days, and similar functions take place. A little ahead opposite the lake is St. John the Baptist Church, High School & Junior College.

In the evenings, along the lake are many food stalls, like of Pav bhaji. My friends & I had our meal at Ram Sevak Pav Bhaji Center stall & then had some ice-cream. There are also many local eateries nearby like Preeti Sandwich & Juice Centre, and Gajanan Vada Pav.

When I was little, my parents used to take me on horse cart rides, which used to be ₹10-₹20. Now ghoda-gadis charge ₹150 to ₹200 for one whole round, and at once they can take 4 to 6 passangers. In honour of Shivaji Maharaj, there is a statue of him riding a horse. In the middle of the lake, there is a Shiva Mandir. I visited it on Shiv Ratri, on that specific day from 7am to 2pm, the boat house take passengers for free to worship the temple. I am not sure if you can visit the temple on other days.

To conclude, if you are in Thane, visiting Masunda Lake aka Talao Pali is a must. It is a fun place to hangout with family and friends. The vegetable & shopping markets are closeby. Many restaurants are available near the lake, ranging from different price points.
