A road movie is a film genre in which the main characters leave home on a road trip, typically altering the perspective from their everyday lives. (Road movie – Wikipedia)

Below mentioned are some of my favourite travel themed movies (arranged chronologically) :
Before Trilogy
Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004) & Before Midnight (2013).
It is set in Vienna, Paris, & Greek Peloponnese Peninsula respectively. You get to experience three beautiful cities, but you also get two deep and different perspectives on life. Jesse (Ethan Hawke) & Celine (Julie Deply) while travelling on a train, and decide to explore the city. Whilst getting to know each other, they discuss their views on love and life.
Lost in Translation (2003)
Did you know? Shawn Mendes’ Lost in Japan music video was inspired by this movie.
This movie is set in Tokyo, Japan. Bob (Bill Murray) a fading American actor, going through a mid-life crisis meets Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) another American staying at the same hotel, accompanying her husband on work trip. The two strangers, lost in a foreign land, gradually become friends. The film explores themes of alienation and disconnection against a backdrop of cultural displacement in Japan.
Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007)
Starring : Abhay Deol, Minissha Lamba, Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Kay Kay Menon, Raima Sen, Karan Khanna, Sandhya Mridul, Vikram Chatwal, Ameesha Patel, Dia Mirza
Six honeymooning couples set on an eventful road trip from Mumbai on a tourist bus and discover secrets about their significant others along the journey that reshapes and redefines their relationship with each other.
Jab We Met (2007)
Did you know? The character of Geet was based on a talktative girl who Imtiaz Ali (Writer & Director) met on a bus in Delhi.
Aditya Kashyap (Shahid Kapoor), a heartbroken business tycoon, aimlessly boards a train to escape his depressing life. There he meets Geet Dhillon (Kareena Kapoor Khan), a bubbly Punjabi girl, and gets pulled into her crazy life. He has no destination in mind, until Geet forces him to accompany her back home to her family, and then on to elope with her secret boyfriend, Anshuman (Tarun Arora).
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
Fun Fact : Unlike his character Imran, that is terrified to skydive, Farhan Akhtar is actually a certified skydiver.
Kabir (Abhay Deol), Imran (Farhan Akhtar) and Arjun (Hrithik Roshan) go on a bachelor’s trip to Spain before Kabir’s wedding. The trip turns into an opportunity to mend fences, heal wounds, fall in love with life and combat their worst fears.
English Vinglish (2012)
Did you know? Shashi is inspired by director Gauri Shinde’s mother.
The story revolves around a woman named Shashi (Sridevi), a small entrepreneur who makes snacks. She flys to New York City to attend her niece’s wedding. Shashi enrolls in an English-speaking course to stop her husband Satish (Adil Hussain) and daughter Sapna (Navika Kotia) mocking her lack of English skills. Her attempt to learn the language helps her rediscover herself and reassert her value as a mother and a wife.
Queen (2013)
Fun Fact : The remixed version of the song “Hungama Ho Gaya” was shot at Club NL, in Amesterdam, where a Hindi song was played for the first time.
Rani (Kangana Ranaut) is devastated after her fiance leaves her just before the wedding. Undeterred, she decides to go on their honeymoon to Paris and Amsterdam alone where she gets pulled out of her comfort zone and rediscovers herself.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)
Did you know? Avi (Bunny & Aditi’s Best Friend) played by Aditya Roy Kapur and Taran (Aditi’s Husband) played by Kunal Roy Kapur are brothers in real life.
Kabir (Ranbir Kapoor) and Naina (Deepika Padukone) meet during a trekking trip where she falls in love with him but refrains from expressing it. They soon drift apart but end up meeting at their best friend Aditi’s (Kalki Koechiln) wedding.
Piku (2015)
Fun Fact : The girl playing the Harmonium spotted by Bhaskor while cycling through Kolkata is director Shoojit’s daughter Anannya.
A road trip to Kolkata brings Piku (Deepika Padukone), an architect, closer to her ageing but nagging father Bhaskor Banerjee (Amitabh Bachan) despite their disparate ideologies and fights over trivial issues.
Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)
Starring : Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma
On the occasion of their 30th anniversary, Kamal and Neelam invite their family and friends on a cruise. However, on the journey, they learn many life lessons and change for the better.
Karwaan (2018)
Fun Fact : This was Salmaan’s Bollywood debut.
Avinash (Dulquer Salmaan) and Shaukat (Irrfan Khan) decide to take a trip to Kochi to sort out a misunderstanding. However, due to a twist of fate, Tanya (Mithila Palkar) ends up joining them on the trip.
