Baking Cookies Did Not Go As Planned

Fact : Life is better with fresh baked cookies.

So for a very long time I was craving cookies. I bake cakes from time to time (mostly box mix), so I thought let’s give cookies a shot.

I saw a recipe on YouTube by Tasty (channel) – How to Make the Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies

Tips for (especially first time) bakers :

These might be common sense or general knowlegde, but I lack them when trying something new.

• Always check if you have the ingredients at home, before starting to bake or cook, especially any new dish. Then accordingly buy what you need.

• Also before starting, keep your ingredients and utensils ready. Chop all that you have to chop beforehand.

• When baking cakes (not sure if it applies to other baking dishes too) make sure all your ingredients are room temperature, especially eggs.

Coming back to the recipe… I ended up making cookie-cake.

So first, let me show you the original list of ingredients :

  • Bread Flour 1 Cup
  • All Purpose Flour 3/4 Cup
  • Kosher Salt 2 Tsp
  • Baking Soda 1 Tsp
  • Butter 1 Cup (Boil to Brown)
  • Dark Brown Sugar 1 Cup
  • White Sugar Powder 1 Cup
  • Vanilla 2 Tsp
  • Espresso Powder 1 Tsp
  • Egg + Egg Yolk
  • Semisweet Chocolate Chips 1/2 Cup
  • Dark Chocolate Chunks 5 oz
  • Mixed with Hand-beater
  • Bake @ 350°F/180°C for 12-14 mins

Now here is the list of indregients I used :

  • Maida 1+3/4 Cup
  • Salt 1 Tsp
  • Baking Powder 1 Tsp
  • Dalda 1 Cup
  • Light Brown Sugar 1 Cup
  • Regular Sugar 1 Cup
  • Vanilla 2 Tsp
  • Coffee Powder 1 Tsp
  • 2 Whole Eggs
  • Dark Chocolate Small Pieces
  • Mixed using Spatula
  • Baked @ 180°C for 14 mins

My dough didn’t turn out as the desired cookie dough. It was sticky. My ice cream scooper was smaller than I wanted. The first 10 cookies, I put it right away in the oven for 12 minutes. The rest of the cookie balls, I kept in the fridge to cool.

They spreaded flater than expected. The outside circle was hard and the centre was cakey. Despite all that, it tasted good. I think for someone baking cookies for the first time, with improvised ingredients, I did a good job (I hope).

The next day, suprisingly they became hard (like a coookie should be). I did store them in a container, and somehow the texture changed. Maybe it needed time to cool off.

The taste turned from okayish to satisfactory. I don’t know how, but I feel they tasted better as the days passed.

Will I try it next time, with the right ingredients? Yes, yes I will, because if I master the art of baking cookies, I can have them anytime I desire. *evil villain laughter*
