I have heard so much about Korean food. The spices, and the variety of flavours. I always wanted to taste different cuisines, and Korean food is definitely on top of the list. Last year during the lockdown, I came across the YouTube channel Jolly. Where the hosts Josh & Ollie, come together to do something fun and hilarious, like Ollie learning Korean, trying new snacks & meals from around the world, British Priest reacting to music videos, Baby Juno trying new cuisines for the first time, and so much more.

That’s also when I came across their first main channel Korean Englishman, on which they make videos linking the two cultures. They display subtitles both in English and Korean. Josh & Ollie try different Korean foods, visit many famous Korean attractions, and sometimes also take their family & friends along on a Korean adventure. I learnt so much about food and culture of South Korea through them. I got to experience Korea, sitting on my couch.

Parasite, my first Korean film (yes, I wacthed it 2 years after its release 😅 but the concept of time doesn’t apply to this pandemic). I was in awe with the storytelling. The script was well written. I did not expect the twists and turns it presented. It is a definite must watch for every movie lover.

In April, McDonald’s announced a new celebrity collaboration meal with the famous K-pop band BTS aka the Bangtan Boys. The BTS meal includes 10 piece Chicken McNuggets, Medium Fries, Medium Coke, and 2 new sauces exclusively picked by BTS – Sweet Chili & Cajun.
I was excited to try something new. This was my first time trying Korean food (I know it’s just the sauces, but still exciting). I’m looking forward to someday trying authentic Korean food, like Kimchi, Samgyeopsal, Bibimbap, Chimaek, their seafood and so much more. (Yummy 😋 my mouth’s watering just thinking of it).
Since I ordered from the McDelivery app, I got a free burger (promo codes 😉). The meal arrived with a cute purple ribbon on the bag, a sweet note written in purple by the staff, and the meal in the new purple packaging.

The Sweet Chilli sauce, it’s spicy sweet. To give you an idea, it’s like Imli (tamarind) chutney. It goes well with the fries too. The Cajun sauce looked like mustard mayonnaise. Its thick texture complements the chicken nuggets, and burgers too.
One thing missing was a sweet souvenir. Perhaps a photocard or a toy would have been the cherry on the cake. Overall, I enjoyed the meal. BTS fans would definitely love the band’s favourite picks.
