
Lonavala is a Hill Station, surrounded with green valleys, in Pune District, Maharashtra, India. It is known for its production of the hard candy Chikki. It is also home to INS Shivaji (formerly HMIS Shivaji) which is the Indian Navy’s Premier Technical Training Institute. The splendid house of Bigg Boss Malayalam (Season 1) was set up in an estate in Lonavala.
Best time to visit Lonavala is during Monsoon Season – June to September.

ETYMOLOGY
The name Lonavala derives from Len (Prakrit, A resting place carved from stone) and Avali (Prakrit, Series).

HISTORY
Lonavala was part of the Yadava Dynasty (860 – 1317). In 1871, the Lonavala & Khandala hill stations were discovered by Lord Elphinstone, the then Governor of Bombay Presidency.

Both Mumbai-Pune Expressway & Mumbai-Chennai Highway pass through Lonavala.

All trains, travelling between Mumbai & Pune halt at Lonavala.
From the Pune suburbs, local trains are available from Pune Junction at 2 hour intervals.
- TOURISM
Lonavala is best to visit during the Monsoon Season. Every other shop sells chikki. There are varieties of chikkis, chocolates and candies available. Some of the best places to visit are Lonavala Lake, Bhushi Dam, Narayani Dham, Della Adventure Park, Sunil’s Wax Museum. There are many tourists spots to visit.
